Kim Polese is a cofounder of CrowdSmart, an AI platform that unlocks human collective intelligence at scale to supercharge organizational decision-making, collaborative action and transformation. Kim is also a cofounder of Common Good AI, a nonprofit open initiative advancing the development and deployment of pro-social AI-powered deliberation tools to help people find common ground and co-create solutions in their communities and beyond.

Kim has cofounded and led multiple technology companies including “Internet of Things” pioneer Marimba, one of the world’s most popular software management platforms. Previously, Kim led Java’s launch at Sun Microsystems as its founding product manager. She began her career as an applications engineer at Stanford spinout IntelliCorp, the first AI company to go public, helping Fortune 100 companies implement expert systems.

Passionate about public policy that drives responsible innovation, Kim serves on the corporate boards of the Long Term Stock Exchange and Lemurian Labs and nonprofits including the Silicon Valley Leadership Group, the California Statewide Leadership Council and UC Berkeley’s College of Engineering. She teaches the capstone entrepreneurship class at UC Berkeley’s Haas School of Business and advises numerous early-stage companies.

Kim received her bachelor’s degree in Biophysics from the University of California at Berkeley, studied Computer Science at the University of Washington and was awarded an honorary doctorate in Business and Economics from California State University.
