Jimmy Wales is the founder and president of the nonprofit Wikimedia Foundation, and co-founder of the for-profit Wikia.com project. A former futures and options trader, Wales founded the precursor to the Wikipedia project, Nupedia, in 01999, which morphed into Wikipedia in January 02001, and a phenomenon was born.
